• Blinkered politicians from other EC countries are keener to protect their own coach operators than allow competition from abroad, according to Transport Secretary Malcolm Rifkind. Speaking at a business forum in London last week, he said that there had been little progress in the liberalisation of bus and coach travel — one of the main objectives in the original treaty.
