• The only ferry service between Newhaven and Dieppe could close because of huge losses, The twice daily service is owned by French company SNAT, a subsidiary of SNCF, but is marketed by Sealink. Two ships, which have had a £6m refurbishment, run on the service. They carry cars mainly, but also have a joint capacity of 88 15 metre trucks and four 12 metre trucks.
A spokeswoman said £4.5m has been lost on the service this year. Some of this has been through industrial action by crew which has meant services have had to be cancelled. SNAT is looking at a number of options which include fewer departures, limiting the service to summer only, or closing the service altogether.
