• A meeting held on Wednesday between ORS Parcels Ltd. management and the TGWU, SCMU and URTU in an attempt to end the strike by 5,000 of the 7.300 drivers and loaders employed by BRS Parcels ended in deadlock. The unions, for the second time, rejected a bonus scheme which would give a guaranteed 30s per week increase for improved productivity.
Mr. Alan Law, Midland regional trade group secretary of the TGWU, said on Monday that the men were not interested in productivity schemes until "a decent basic rate" had been settled.
The industry's National Joint Negotiating Ccrnmittee is meeting on Monday, 10 days earlier than scheduled, to discuss pay.
On Wednesday 12 more depots joined the 47 which had been on strike since Tuesday.
