• Recession-hit UK hauliers pay up to 40% less for new trucks than their counterparts in Germany, a new study says.
But price differences between countries are likely to be ironed out once the Single European Market takes effect, says consultancy Knibb, Gormezano & Partners. Lower UK prices are due to the competitive truck market, where no one manufacturer has predominance, unlike in Germany, where Mercedes-Benz has the lion's share, it adds.
There are also more large fleets in Britain, which tend to split orders for new vehicles between several marques.
