• Mystery surrounds the future of Nexday Express amid reports that the franchise parcels network has ceased trading.
Franchisees say Nexday's parent, the Sandbach-based Speedwell Group, contacted them on Friday to say it was unwilling to finance the operation any further.
Many of the 30 franchisees are reputedly owed thousands of pounds — several are said to be owed £100,000. One franchisee said this week: "I was told Nexday had ceased trading because it had run out of funds and Speedwell couldn't continue to finance the operations...they have never been able to pay anyone on time since it was taken over last year."
Neither Speedwell Group nor Nexday directors were available for comment as CM went to press.
Fellow parcels franchise operation Panic Link expects to take on about a third of Nexday's franchisees, where their operations do not conflict with its own franchisees.
It says it has offered the Nexday franchisees access to its 100-strong network through its hub in Lount, Leicestershire.
