Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• From 1 September this year smoke emission regulations become part of the annual test. To help operators find out if their vehicles will pass the smoke test, Wednesbury-based Rozone has launched a hand-held diesel smoke detector to suit all HGVs and PCVs.

The ASA200 is based on technology developed for battlefield smoke detection and can be operated from the vehicle's cab. It has three main components — a sensor unit, hand-held control pad and a printer to give the test results.

The sensor has a spring-loaded grip which clips on to any vehicle's exhaust pipe. Clipping the sensor on automatically puts the measuring head into the exhaust stream.

Getting through with Motorola

• Motorola has launched a mobile radio, the GM300, which the manufacturer claims has features to combat interference in built-up areas where airwaves are often congested.

It is available in VHF and UHF, and costs £330 (ex-VAT). Accessories include a heavy-duty palm microphone, telephone-style handset and external speakers.
