AN AGREEMENT allowing Irish and French hauliers to get permits in Dublin and Paris before setting out for each other's countries has been signed by the Irish and French governments.
The agreement also means that Irish hauliers will be exempt from certain French taxes which they at present pay while the vehicle is in France.
There is to be a quota of 5,000 journeys for both countries during the first year of the agreement and the Irish government has announced that it is negotiating similar agreements with EEC countries to smooth the way of the Irish haulier.
