Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Trevor Longcroft

Much of the delayin obtaining spares from a dealer can be attributed to the seemingly endless task of identifying part numbers and bin numbers, perhaps in one or more catalogues. To expedite the identification and tracing of the components European Ford companies have incorporated the use of a (Photochromic Micro Image) Microform for the publishing and distribution of Ford parts catalogues to their European dealer network. The new system will replace the dozens of printed catalogues of technical data on all current and non-current Ford UK and Ford Germany trucks and cars.

In the system, printed catalogues will be replaced by a 6in. x 4in. transparency that will have 2450 miniaturized pages (about eight average-sized printed catalogues). Rapid retrieval of any pages is effected by placing the transparency into a PCMI reader where the page is magnified to approximately 11 sq in. in size.

After the initial phase is completed during the first half of 1971 it is planned to introduce the reader programme to all the non-European countries to which Ford exports. For Ford dealers and customers it will mean more up-to-date information more readily available to them and a speedier, more efficient parts service.
