Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AT the second Coal Handling Exhibition, held in London this week, a prominent exhibit shown for the first time was a 30-ton-gross articulated outfit for transporting solid fuel in bulk. Illustrated below, it cons:sts basically of an ERF 64-CU 180 tractive unit and Highway semi-trailer. The frame members of the trailer have been modified to allow the bulk body built by Atkinson's of Clitheroe Ltd, to have reduced overall height. The hydraulic boom can be traversed through an arc of 180 deg. and discharge up to 16 ft. horizontally or Ii ft. vertically.

The overall cost was approximately £6,700 and the unladen weight of 104 tons permits a payload of 191 tons or 38 cu. yd. The use of tubeless Michelin tyres has effected a saving of 7 cwt. It is to go into operation for Richard Read (Transport) Ltd., Longhope, Glos. next month.

Typical of smaller mechanical handling exhibits was the Lodematic telescopic automatic loader engaged here (see below) on sack loading. It, too, is made in Clitheroe.

At the opening ceremony on Tuesday, Lord Robens, chairman of the NCB, and Dr Beeching, making his last public appearance as chairman of the Railways Board. emphasized the speed with which the concentration of coal distribution, through mechanized but fewer depots. was proceeding.
