Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ON January 1 of this year, T. M. Erskine and Co,, the Scottish agent for Karrier Motors, Ltd., Luton, supplied a Cob Junior tractor and two tipping trailers, each 14 ft. by 7 ft. by 2 ft., to Messrs. Wm. Donaldson, coal merchants of Linwood, Paisley. Within n months the vehicle had handled the remarkable_ figure of over 7,000 tons of coal.

The tractor and trailers are equipped, with the original Karrier BK-type coupling gear and power-operated hydraulic tipping gears by Brornilow and Edwards, Ltd., the pump for operating the gears being fitted to the tractor and driven from the power take-off on the gearbox, whilst the hydraulic power from the pump is transferred to the trailer via a flexible pipe. For this, Mr. Donaldson has designed and constructed an ingenious and quickly operated hose coupling, which saves a great deal of time when attaching and detaching trailers.

The outkt is employed generally in taking coal from Linwood Station to the paper mills owned by IL and W. Watson, Ltd., a distance of well over half-a-mile each way. Three loaders are employed at the station end, and at the mill the driver tips the load straight into an underground hopper.

B38 The men work eight hours per day, and quite often the mill is " coaled" by 4 p.m., the day's tonnage varying between 100 and 200.

Of particular moment is the fact that the petrol consumption amounts only to nine gallons per week, and no oil has yet been added to the engine between " drainings," which are carried out monthly.

It is attracting much attention by the clockwork regularity with which it performs its job, and forms another striking example of the usefulness of an outfit ot this hind on localized transport.
