A Greenwich owner-driver has been fined more than £5,000 by Barking magistrates after he faded to appear to answer a number of allegations.

Zutfiqur Raza Jaffery, trading as Geoff Motors, was accused of using a vehicle without an excise licence, a current test certificate or a calibrated tachograph.

Prosecuting for the Vehicle Inspectorate, Anthony Ostrin said Jaffery's vehicle had been stopped in a check last April. An inspection of the tachograph equipment indicated that it had not been calibrated for a considerable period of time.

No vehicle excise licence was being displayed and there was no current test certificate.

the magistrates found the case proved. They fined Jaffery 15.030 with £150 costs and ordered him to pay back duty of £68.75.
