Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Ceramic materials are hard, chemically inert, dielectric, have high-temperature corrosion resistance and make excellent thremal barriers. The ability to add all these qualities to a different base material as a thermally sprayed coating, overcomes many of the fabrication and brittleness problems of solid ceramics.

A new approach to the manufacture of ceramic powders for plasma sprayed coatings has resulted in the introduction of a ternary oxide composition designated METCO 205. Development trials, says METCO, are confirming laboratory tests showing increased cyclic fatigue resistance, superior hot corrosion and erosion resistance, low thermal conductivity and predictable performance. METCO 205 is a fully pre-alloyed ceria-yttria stabilised zirconia powder. Details on the new materials and their application are available.
