J p EVISIONS in fares which would cost 1% Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., £30,000 a year were approved by the North Western Traffic Commissioners at Preston last week.

Mr. H. Bottomley, general manager, said that the revisions followed' an undertaking given to the Commissioners last autumn to institute more uniform charges per mile. The company did not wish to give the impression that there was any improvement in their economic situation, but when 44,000 fares were reviewed it was found necessary to introduce 4,000 reductions to remove anomalies.

A total of 358 new fares stages was being introduced.

Hoping that they will lead to an increase in travel and revenue, the East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd., are to introduce cheaper fares on many of their services for an experimental period from March 30.

Special half-day return tickets will be available after 1.45 p.m. on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Canterbury-Folkestone return tickets will cost 4s ld.. compared with the normal rate of 4s. 10d.

The Lincolnshire Road Car Co., Ltd., have applied to the East Midland Traffic Commissioners to raise fares on 115 excursions and tours starting from Scunthorpe, a similar number from Lincoln, and further journeys from other points.

Halifax Corporation and the British Transport Commission are applying to the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners for Id. increases of fares on parts of 27 routes operated by the Halifax Joint Omnibus Committee.

1-1 A 292-PAGE directory of hauliers has

been published by the Metropolitan and South Eastern Area of the Road Haulage Association. It includes operators in Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, London, Middlesex, Surrey and Sussex.

It is arranged alphabetically first by counties and then by towns, with hauliers listed alphabetically under each town. A code identifies 64 different kinds of haulage facility or vehicle. Members and towns are indexed separately. A map shows the area covered and an enlarged detail delineates the London postal regions.
