Variations have also been made in the regulations covering normal vehicles: Principal changes relate to suspension, calculation of turning circle, ground clearance and guard rails, side overhang of express and contract carriages, fitting of fuel tanks, electrical equipment, panel heights on open single-deckers, height of outside staircase rails, position and size of exits, height of emergency exits and passages leading to them, power-assisted doors, seats on doors, gangways, space in front of and above seats, driver's accommodation, windscreens, wireless apparatus, luggage racks and lighting.

These changes have been made in the Public Service Vehicles (Conditions of Fitness) Regulations, 1958, and the Public Service Vehicles and Trolley Vehicles (Carrying Capacity) (Amendment) Regulations, 1958. They will be examined in detail in next week's issue.

FOUR NEW MUNICIPAL KARRIERS

COUR new municipal versions of the • Karrier Bantam refuse cr./Rectal-were announced on Wednesday. They comprise a 10-cu.-yd. side loader (10-ft. 2-in. wheelbase) with single cab; a 10-cu.-yd. side loader (11-ft. 5-in, wheelbase) with double cab; a 10-12-cu.-yd. Dual-Tip Junior (8-ft. 2-in, wheelbase) with single cab; and a 10-12-cu.-yd. Dual-Tip Junior (10-ft. 2-in, wheelbase) with double cab.

All these vehicles have front shock absorbers as standard and are fitted with strengthened front. and rear springs. They are available with either a 53.5-b.h.p. petrol engine or 54-b.h.p. oil engine. They have been introduced to satisfy the demand for something a little latger than the Karrier 7-cu.-yd. single-cab model, whilst still maintaining low weight and good manceuvrability.

PERKINS BOARD CHANGES

JOINING the concern in 1953, Mr. Monty Prichard, deputy managing director of F. Perkins, Ltd., has become joint managing director. Mr. Frank Perkins is now chairman and joint managing director. He has decided to relinquish some of his executive responsibilities.

Mr. George P. Ritchie has joined the board of the company. .
