NEXT I.U.P.T. CONGRESS AT MADRID

THE" next congress of the Interna

tional Union of PublicS Transport, the 30th to be held, will take place in Madrid at the end of April, 1953. One of the papers to be presented will be by Mr. A. A. M. Durrant, chief mechanical engineer (road services) London Transport Executive. His-subject will be trends in bus construction, with special reference to suspension by means other than traditional springs and conventional or chassisless construction.

Other papers include one on the organization of repair shops and depots by M. Lagarrigue, director of the road services of Regie Autonome des Transports Parisiens, one on one-man operation, and a third on the penetration of suburban services into urban transport systems.

ASUM of about £12 10s. per van is being saved by Tyresoles, Ltd., Wembley, Middx, by having given up hand signwriting and adopting transfers. The company and its associates operate over 300 vehicles. Another economy is reducing time spent off the road when vehicles are undergoing their, periodic repaint.

GUILD CHANGES NAME: NEW CONSTITUTION

THE name of the British Railway Officers' Guild has been changed to the British Transport Officers' Guild. The body has a new constitution providing for a railways and ,general and a roads division. Members of the staffs of the Road Haulage Executive, the Road Passenger Executive, the Tilling group and the Scottish Omnibuses group will belong to the second division.
