Mercedes dealer Orwell Truck & Van spent more than £600,000 building a new ATF at its Ipswich depot to help raise testing standards
Words: Kevin Swallow EAST ANGLIA-based Mercedes-Benz dealer Orwell Truck & Van says its new £600,000 authorised test facility (ATF) will help raise testing standards.
Orwell MD David Grant says the dealership has been quick to seize the chance to offer operators a convenient local service with a new purpose-built unit featuring a 16m inspection pit, brake roller and headlight alignment testers, and ‘shaker’ plates.
Grant sits on the Franchised Dealer National Executive Committee of the Retail Motor Industry Federation, and chairs its 13-member Truck Council. “The CV working group has been working closely with Vosa for eight years on the development of the ATF concept.
“It’s only since Alastair Peoples [who opened the new test lane] became Vosa CEO in 2009 that he has accelerated the process and made it a reality. He’s fostered a genuine spirit of partnership with the industry,” he says.
The ATF lane is open from Monday morning until Saturday afternoon. ■
