Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CUMBRIAN CAR transporter firm ECM has welcomed Stobart Group’s approach to buy its rival Autologic (CM 21 June) claiming that Stobart will “get it right” in a market that has claimed several victims over the recession.

Stobart Group made its expected formal offer for car-transporter firm Autologic, which is valued at £12.4m, last week. The deal would see Stobart become the largest car-transporter haulier in the UK.

ECM MD Ray MacDowall says: “Stobart appears to have a very good understanding of the cost of operating logistic networks and the need to realise a profit from what they do. “Network pricing is a complex puzzle and with the huge volume fluctuations, from day to day and week to week, it’s more so in automotive logistics. For those who get it wrong the cost is usually the collapse of their business, that’s why we’ve seen so many business failures in our sector.

“I have the feeling Stobart will get it right.”
