Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE UNION representing tanker drivers at Total has condem ned the company's decision to split its distribution contract.Totalconlirmed this week that from October it will stop exclusively using Wincanton and will add Turners of Soham and DHL Exel as well.

The main union representing the drivers has accused Total of "betrayal" by making the change.Ron Webb, national secretary for transport for the T&G section of Unite, say-s:"Th ere is a sense of betrayal at this news and that's understandable after the way our members rallied round for Total, which was affected by the Buncefield blast 18 months ago. This will seriously affect the industrial bargaining arrangements which weren't broken and don't need fixing."

Shop stewards working on the Total contract were due to meet this week (28 June) to discuss the union's next move.

A spokeswoman for Wincanton. which will retain the contract for the Midlands and the North, says all drivers should retain their jobs and conditions under TUPE rules but the union is unconvinced.

A spokesman says: "We felt we had an effective bargaining unit which was working for us, for Wincan ton, and by extension for Total. Our experience of contract transfers leads us to believe that pay, conditions and job security are not always fully protected."

Total says it will do all it can "to keep any impact on drivers to a minimum and the transfer between suppliers as smooth as possible".

After 1 October,Tumers (Soham) will service the Total contract in the South-East and DHL Exel will handle the work in the South-West.
