the weekend using 70 pairs of shoes to highlight the dangers facing truck drivers at work.
The Transport & General Workers' Union says the shoes represent the average weekly death toll on UK roads, It estimates that up to 30% of the deaths involve a vehicle being used for work.
Dave McCall, T&G north-west regional secretary, says: "The road network of the UK must be included as part of the workplace for all working drivers, together with workshops, factories and offices. Transport accidents at work have in the past been overlooked."
The shoes were lined up at a conference on workplace hazards in Manchester.
