• Tipper operators working for Tarmac in the Caniforth area of Lancs have won a 7.5% rate increase from 1 July.
Drivers had threatened to stop working for five major quarries run by ARC, English China Clay, Wimpey, Tilcon and Tarmac — unless they received a 15% rise.
A member of the tipper operators' negotiating committee told Commercial Motor. "It was 7.5% or nothing. But we are not satisfied and will be looking for inure."
