• Newbury-based Roadline International has suspended its operations — owing several owner-operators thousands of pounds.

Kathryn Crane, who founded the freight forwarding business with her husband Andrew in February 1989, was granted a bankruptcy order at Newbury County Court on 10 June.

As Kathryn Crane was sole proprietor of Roadline, it would be examined as part of her bankruptcy says a spokesman for the Department of Trade and Industry.

Owner Operators UK says it has been contacted by 15 operators who are owed large sums of money by Roadline International, ranging from 23,000 to .29,000. Dawsonrentals credit control manager Tony Coward claims his firrn is owed more than 216,000 and is currently negotiating with the Official Receivers.

Roadline International was originally set up to give owneroperators loads direct from manufacturers and suppliers, cutting out the middlemen. It is a registered freight forwarder and has about 40 operators on its books.

Commercial Motor tried to contact the Newbury-based firm. However, its office is now manned only by a tele

phone answering machine giving out the message that traffic operations have been suspended while outstanding debts are collected.
