Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The MoT test fee for light commercials and cars with an unladen kerbweight of up to 1,525kg is to go up from 210.70 to 211.90 from July 1.

The increase follows submissions to the Department of Transport from the Motor Agents Association and its sister body, the Scottish Motor Trade Association (CM, June 7).

Although the price rise is well above inflation, the MAA and SMTA have justified it by saying it is needed to cover higher operating costs including labour rates and insurance.

The last increase in the test fee was only 70p in July 1985.
