• The following major roadworks could cause delays to operators and drivers and should be borne in mind when route planning. Drivers should also take special care when driving through contraflow systems and maintain a sensible distance between themselves and the vehicle in front, wherever possible. CM's roadworks report is compiled with the help of the AA arid the Department of TransPort.
MI Northampton. The second and third lanes of the northbound carriageway will be closed for a distance of 3.2km (2 miles) south of Junction 15 (Collingtree) for the erection of lighting columns. Traffic will use the hard shoulder as an extra running lane.
0 MI Hertfordshire. A contraflow scheme is in hand at Junction 8 (Hemel Hempstead) causing Lane closures until the autumn.
0 M3 Surrey. A contraflow scheme is in operation at Junction 4 (Frimley) owing to major reconstruction work. As a result the westbound entry slip road will be closed to all traffic.
0 M4 Berkshire. Between Junctions 8/9 (Maidenhead/1V1423) and Junction 10 (Reading) a contraflow scheme is in operation owing to major carriageway repairs. Drivers are warned of delays, particularly during rush-hour periods.
0 M5 West Midlands. Between Junctions 4 and 6 (Kidderminster and Worcester) there will be a number of lane closures at various locations until October. Contraflow schemes will operate over most stretches. A mandatory
80km/h (50mph) is in force for the duration of the works.
O M6 Lancs. Between Junctions 32 and 33 (Blackpool/M55 interchange, and A6 turn-off) the left and middle lanes of the northbound carriageway are closed until October. Closures cover a distance of 41(rn (2.5 miles). Contraflow scheme operating on southbound carriageway.
0 M20 Kent, Between Junctions 7 and 8 (A20 interchange and Maidstone), contraflow scheme in operation until November. Work suspended July 24August 31 to ease holiday traffic flow.
0 M1 I Essex. The northbound slip road at the Redbridge roundabout is closed until October owing to the construction work on the South Woodford to Barking relief road.
0M56 Cheshire. Between Junctions 6 and 9 (Wilmslow and M6 interchange) the eastbound carriageway is closed until mid-August. Contraflow scheme operating on the westbound carriageway.
0 Al (My Nottingham, the north and southbound carriageways are closed separately at Balderton to carry out urgent patching work. Contraflow schemes in operation.
0 Al (M) County Durham. Between Burtree and Aycliffe interchanges there will be closures on the northbound carriageway and slip roads for the next two weeks for resurfacing work. A contraflow scheme is operating on the southbound carriageway, and diversionary routes are signposted.
