The first presentation was held in the London Barbican Centre last week.

Around 250 British brokers, businessmen and shipping managers were told by Jac ques Caulier, president of the Dunkirk Port Authority Board, that the port's present investments in new terminal facilities prove the commitment of the port to its further development.

Caulier said: "The tunnel will transform the economy of the coastal area. Dunkirk is only 15 miles from the tunnel entrance, and is the nearest multi-purpose port to the tunnel. We hope to increase port traffic through our proximity to the tunnel entrance."

The two new terminals will improve facilities for crosschannel traffic.

The first new terminal is being built jointly by the port and Sally Line to increase the capacity of Sally Line's terminal facilities.

Sally Line says the Ming II and the new terminal facility will increase the company's truck, passenger and car carrying capacity by around 25%.

The second new terminal at Dunkirk is a .24.4 million road and rail traffic terminal, which begins operations next summer.

II] Cross-Channel traffic via Dunkirk increased by 25% to one million tonnes in the first four months of 1986, according to the port authority.

It is now second in France regards cross-Channel freight.
