a craneequipped tipper lorry to collect scrap cars and deliver pressed scrap to steelworks, and also to use a scrap lorry for taking flattened body shells to a shredding plant. Would if be legal to carry out these operations on trade plates?
AWhile the general trade licence permits a
vehicle manufacturer, dealer or repairer to run untaxed vehicles under trade plates and carriage (or towing in) of broken down vehicles, they cannot be used for vehicles engaged in the carriage of goods which, in fact, the vehicles you mention would be doing when delivering scrap or body shells.
In both cases excise duty at goods vehicles rate would be payable and in addition, on the existing system, a carriers' licence would be necessary.
