The social side of the IRU meeting enabled the Hungarian host association to excel itself. Not only with excursions and receptions, but with Hungarian music and dancing—and a fashion show complete with mini-skirts, which are widely worn in this Communist-bloc state.
One got a very mixed picture of Budapest, in fact. There was Western culture and the appearance of adequate wealth, while alongside it was the traditional Eastern European way of life, and barefoot gypsies in the streets. Sounds a bit like Kings Road, Chelsea, to me.
