• In view of the Transport Bill proposals to eliminate from licensing vehicles not exceeding 30 cwt, there should be made available a oneyear licence at a fee of [Os a vehicle, instead of the five-year licence at a fee of £1 10s, suggested Mr. Peter Walker in the Commons last week. .
But Mr. Richard Marsh told him that he had no power to reduce the currency period of C licences to one year.
Apart from this, fees for carriers' licences were intended to cover the administrative costs of the licensing system and the cost of issuing a licence for one year would not be significantly less than the cost of issuing it for five years, added the Minister.
