• An experiment with one-man buses is to be proposed to Edinburgh municipal transport committee next month as part of an effort to meet the city's transport deficit, expected this year to be about £111,000.
The committee will also be asked to negotiate with Scottish Omnibuses Ltd., on cutting out duplication of bus services on the outskirts of the city.
The proposals are made by a sub-committee which met in private last week to discuss transport policy. Savings are being made by alterations to services, time-tables, and routes, but the pay award of £1 a week to municipal busmen, due to take effect on July 26, will add £237,000 to costs.
It is suggested that one-man buses should be tried out on a few services. They would be introduced only after negotiations with the bus section of the TGWU.
