The standard minimum headroom for all new highway bridges is 16ft 61n. and lower bridges are already specially signed. But it appears there is a particular risk when moving large items of contractors plant, especially those with an overhanging boom or jib, says the letter. "Cases have been reported in which such loads have shifted while being transported in a way which has increased their height."'
