Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AGUY double-decker, which was originally supplied to Plymouth Corporation in 1943, has recently been completely restyled and has gone into operation with A.A. Motor Services, Ltd., Ayr, whose associated company, Dodd's Coaches, Ltd., Troon, were responsible for the reconstruction.

Basically a Guy Arab Mark II 63seater, the vehicle now has a modernized front superstructure which incorporates a lower radiator with light-alloy surround and wider front mudguards to give an overall width of 8 ft.

Longer hub studs and spacers between the brake drums and rear wheels have been used to enable 10.00-20-in. tyres to be fitted. A new Gardner 6LW engine with K-type modification and full power rating has been installed in place of the original 5LW power unit, whilst the exhaust-pipe diameter has been increased from 2+ in. to 3 in. A rear-axle ratio of 4.8 to 1 has been provided in place of the previous 6.5 to 1.

A Lockheed'Hydrovac braking system has been installed in tandem with the existing servo system and is said to have given excellent results. The Hydrovac is coupled to the rear brakes, p24 whilst the servo op,!rates the front brakes. Hand-brake efficiency has been improved by adding 8 in. to the lever.

Power-operated doors are fitted to the rear entrance of the body, which was supplied by Alexander and Sons (Coachbuilders), Ltd., Falkirk. A.A. Motor Services are said to be the first concern to run double-decker buses with poweroperated doors in the west of Scotland. At 7 tons 4+ cwt. the unladen weight of the rebuilt vehicle is some 8 cwt. lighter than originally.

Dodd's Coaches. Ltd., have been carrying out this type of work on a number of Guy chassis over the past few years. It provides full employment for their staff during the winter months when a large part of the coach fleet is unlicensed.
