A NEW type of experimental Leyland double-deck coach will be introduced shortly by the London Transport Executive on the Green Line service between Aldgate and Brentwood.
Known as the CRL 4, it has air conditioning on both decks, automatic gear change, power-assisted steering and double folding doors on the rear platform. The vehicle seats 57 passengers and is of the same basic design as the Routemaster.
If successful, the CRL 4 in two years will replace the RT-type doubledeckers being used on Green Line routes running from Aldgate to Brentwood, Cot-bets Tey, Grays and Tilbury.
GREAT NORTH ROAD WORKS VUORK is to start at once on a vv £600,000 scheme to improve eight miles of the Great Norqi Road, , between Woolpack Cross Roads and
• Water Newton in Huntingdonshire. Work is already in hand on the fivemile stretch to the south of Woolpack Cross Roads as far as Aleonbury Hill, so that there will be twin 24-ft.-wide carriageways for 13 miles.
A roundabout will be provided at Norman Cross and Stilton will be by-passed to the east.
To relieve serious congestion in the centre of Leicester, work on a further section of the central ring road started • on Monday. Eventually there will be two 30-11-wide carriageways..
24-ft. SEMI-TRAILER ON. SHOW A12-TON semi-trailer with a 24-ft...long body is being exhibited by the British Trailer co., Ltd., at the "Industry Advances" Exhibition, sponsored by Liverpool Corporation as part of the city's celebrations for the 750th anniversary, of its charter.
Transport Repairers. (Liverpool), Ltd., are displaying York semi-trailers, and Conveyancer Fork Trucks, Ltd., a number of fork-lift trucks. The exhibition closes tomorrow.
MOBIL ANTI-FREEZE TO be available in 5-gat. drums and
I I.-gal. and 14g.t. cans, Mobil Permazone anti-freeze will be intro-. timed by the Mobil Oil Co., Ltd., in the autumn'. The product has an ethylene glycol base and contains additives to prevent corrosion.
The addition of 2 pt. of Permazone to I gal. of water will afford protection against frost damage in temperatures normally experienced in the British Isles, say the company.
