pLYMOUTH will hold an eliminating
round in the Lorry Driver of the Year Competition on August 18. It is being sponsored by Plymouth Joint Road Safety Committee whose honorary organizing secretary is Mr. H. L. Trebilcock, 45 Mutley Plain. Plymouth. Manceuvring tests will take place on the parade ground at Seaton 1-1a units.
A publicity sub-committee has been set up to make the competition known. The chairman is Mr. G. P. Truscott, who is assisted by Mr. W. E. Foster, secretary of the Devon and Cornwall Area of the Road Haulage Association.
The opening eliminating round will be held at Southend-on-Sea on Sunday. The first of about 60 vehicleswill leave Progress Road on the road section of the competition at 10 a.m. Examination on the Highway Code and the maneevring tests, of which there are expected to be three, will also take place at Progress Road.
Competitors in the Coventry eliminating contest will start from Pool Meadow, Coventry, at 9 a.m. on July 14. They will be observed along a five-mile route to Banner Lane, where manieuvring tests will be held on the car park of the Standard Motor Co., Ltd., and at the works of Wickmans. Ltd.
The inauguration of a Birmingham contest on July 7 is expected to reduce the number of entries at Coventry. About 50 have been received so far.
The Slough round on July 21 will begin at 9 a.m. at Hawker's Airfield, Langley, Bucks. There will be three manceuvring tests.
