Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Modus is reducing the time taken to diagnose faults in vehicles and to pick up problems undetected by the driver, says Quicks, the Iveco Ford dealer in Manchester. It has found that Modus can pinpoint the most obscure wiring fault in about three hours, against up to L5 days using traditional techniques.

Checking all the sensors on the ABS "takes five minutes now", says technician Barry Skelton, by avoiding the need to look up the blink codes in the work shop manuals. Modus can also be used to check and set braking predominance on tractive units; its "freeze frame" function allows the exact readings to be seen.

Where a vehicle is fitted with both ABS and HDC it is possible for the two ECUs to "fight" each other on speed limiting. "Without Modus it is impossible to find out what is happening," says Skelton, "With Modus you can reset the ABS to a higher speed."

A diagnostic engine "health check" is seen as an added service that can be offered to entice operators to the dealership. It is designed to highlight faults such as fouled injectors and to indicate potential problems such as piston ring blow-by.
