Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• English Abrasives & Chemicals has brought out an enhanced Safe-Guard range developed to meet the demands induced by changes in working practices and safety legislation. The range covers five areas of protection: eye, respiratory, hand, head and hearing.

Eye protection: This comprises four types of goggles — high impact, anti-mist, gas welding and direct ventilation — as well as safety spectacles.

'rhe high-impact goggles (BS2092) are for use where dust and vapours are a problem.

The gas welding goggles (BS2092/B51542 Class 2/ BS679 GW4) are designed for gas welding use only. They have a flexible, anti-dermatitic frame and lightproof ventilation, while the direct vent goggles (BS2092) provide a smooth flowing entry of air.

The safety spectacles (BS2092) are suitable for general, non-specific protection.

Respiratory protection: All products have an HSE certificate where applicable and conform to the British Standard.

The range includes single and twin cartridge respirators (both BS2091), and a dust cartridge. The cartridge, applicable to both units, protects against nuisance and toxic dusts, as well as white asbestos and lead. There is also a gas/dust cartridge designed for use with the twin model only. Hand protection: The range has been expanded to include fully coated PVC gloves with knitted wrists, split chrome leather welding gauntlets and gripper gloves with latex lattice work for a sure grip.

Head protection: The SafeGuard helmet complies with shock absorption and penetra

tion tests required to meet BS5240, as well as conforming to German DIN, Scandinavian and Canadian standards. Made from high-glass, high-density polyethylene, it features a deep rain channel and an anti-static polythene harness.

Hearing protection: SafeGuard ear defenders have been measured as specified in BS5108, and conform to the requirements of BS6344 Part 1. Features include lightweight, double chambered ear cups, wide and soft cushions, and full adjustability to most head sizes. Assumed protection is 36.9dB at 4000 Hz.
