TWO-WAY RADIO CUTS QUEUES

VXPERIMENTS have been made with two-way radio by London Transport in the Dorking area, to deal with traffic problems created by day trippers to beauty spots in the locality. Experience has shown at which points duplicate buses are most likely to be wanted, and the bringing into service of reliefs has, in the past, been effected by telephone calls from inspectors.

A radio van, fitted with Pye equipment, has now been put into service. It visits each point in the area at which extra ' buses may be needed, and informs Dorking bus station over the air, One official can visit all points in a short time, and much time is saved by eliminating telephone calls by the inspectors.

LITTLE WEAR IN GARDNER ENGINE

A SERIES of pictures recently pub ti by the Vel-va-Lube Co., Ltd., Addison Street, Nottingham, shows the difference in condition of an engine which had been operating with Vel-va-Lube in the lubricating and fuel systems as against one which had not

The unit illustrated is a Gardner 6LW oil engine which had run for 79,500 road-miles. It is stated that cylinder wear averaged 0.0035 in. and crankshaft journal ovality was 0.001 in. The engine was clean and wear of all components was below the recognized average. A detergent oil was used in the lubrication system.
