THE fracture of the off-side .front spring near the leading eye has been held to be the cause of an accident involving a Glasgow Corporation bus. The bus swerved and toppled over in front of a tram in Great Western Road, Glasgow, Seven people. were killed.

The jury, which sat for two days under Sheriff Johnston at the recent inquiry into the accident, said that from the evidence it had heard, certain public service vehicles apparently were fitted with safety devices which prevented serious movement of the axle in the event of a spring's breaking. It recom mended that consideration be given to the possibility of fitting such devices to all public service vehicles.

Hionigan, superintendent of the corporation's Knightswood garage, said .that .since October. 1949, 11-leaf springs had been 'superseded by 21-leaf springs on vehicles of the :type, involved in the acci dent.
