THE AMERICAN Ziebart International Corporation is to introduce a new long term rust-proofing guarantee as a further step in the reconstruction of its operation in the UK.
For a premium of £5, St Paul Companies Inc of Minnesota, USA, which has assets exceeding $5.3 billion, will be underwriting the guarantees through its subsidiary Atwater McMillan.
The policy covers the cost of rust repairs up to a maximum of £4,000 over a ten year period and sets only two conditions: • The vehicle has to be taken to a Ziebart service centre once every 12 months for annual inspection. • Accidental damage must be reprocessed within 14 days of the repair being completed.
The guarantee may be transferred to a second owner but only within the first four years.
The scheme, already operating in the USA and Canada, will be extended to the UK next month.
Ziebart ran into trouble when the guarantee on its rustproofing could not be honoured by all its franchise holders.
