Versatile filter unit

ANEW filter unit which can detect signs of impending engine or other mechanical unit failure is now available in this country. Known as the Tedeco Oil Monitor filter, it is designed to clean lubricating or hydraulic oil and to detect conductive particles such as metal from highly stressed ball or roller bearings.

The unit is claimed to be equally at home when used with gearboxes, hydraulic systems, or in any other application where it is desirable that indication should be given of the presence of metallic contamination. The filter mesh of the unit is cone-shaped and positioned in the fluid flow-line in such a way that any solid particles carried in the stream are directed to the bottom of the cone where an electric chip detector is located. When a sufficient number of particles have collected to bridge the gap on the detector, a circuit is completed causing readings to be recorded on a remotely placed indicator.

A quick-release body enabling easy removal for cleaning is incorporated in the design and the filters are equipped with a No. 24 mesh screen. A finer mesh is available to special order. The gravity flow rate of light engine-oil through the unit is 0.6 g.p.m. at 70°F.

Remoulding tyre service •

ASERVICE which is claimed to be capable of remoulding side walls on to tyres damaged by kerbing is announced by Marshall For Tyres Ltd. The company has installed a special machine, said to be the only one of its type in Great Britain, which is at present equipped to accommodate tyres having the following sizes: 27 in. by 6 in.; 25 in. by 6 in. and 23 in. by 5 in. The company will shortly be able to offer the service for tyres of 8 in., 10 in., 15 in., 16 in. and 20 in. diameter.

It is claimed that from the legal point of view tyres undergoing the re-walling treatment will be acceptable. The company stresses, however, that it will only undertake to rebuild tyres that when finished will, in its opinion, be safe for further use.

Where tyre cords have been damaged by kerbing it is possible in most cases to replace these and an extra thick scuffing band can be moulded on to the casing during processing if required.

The process is to be known by the name "Renewall" and an estimate of cost and suitability of every tyre received will be given before any work is done.

Carried out by: Marshall For Tyres Ltd., Oxford Road, Clacton-onSea, Essex.

Prices: For one wall, from £2 10s. to £3 5s.; for two walls, £3 15s. to £4 12s. 6d., all according to size. Replacement of ply, repairs, or addition of scuff band, extra.

New plant trailer

NEW 6-ton trailer for carrying contractors' plant is announced by Tollbridge Trailers Ltd. The model is a close-coupled fourwheeler and has a 15 ft.-long by 6 ft.-wide platform. The loading height is 18 in. and loading is facilitated either by a 6 ft.-high, springassisted tailboard or by two separate ramps, one of which forms a tailboard when in transit, whilst the other is carried on the trailer. Suspension is by independent torsional rubber units at each wheel. Braking is by 12 in.-dia. by 2.25 in.-wide Girling units on all wheels, powered by two Feeny and Johnson vacuum bellows each mechanically connected to one pair of wheels.

Main frame construction is of 6 in. by 3 in. mild-steel, channel cross-membered in 6 in. by 2 in. mild-steel angle. All joins are electrically welded and the frame is rust-proofed and finished in polyurethane enamel.

Standard equipment on the trailer includes screw jacks at the rear corners of the body, a heavy-duty telescopic jockey wheel on the drawbar, front and rear lights, stop lights and flashers. Door retaining device

ADOOR retaining device which has no working parts and requires no maintenance is announced by Albert Jagger Ltd. Called the No. 555 Centaur Plastic Door Retainer, it is claimed to incorporate all the best features of the traditional door retaining unit whilst having none of the vices.

The Centaur Retainer is moulded in nylon and is highly resistant to abrasion, weathering and corrosion. It is self coloured white and will blend with most colour schemes, making fitting after painting a simple proposition.
