A PENDING application to extend the scope of B licences to permit the carriage of general goods within 200 miles was referred to by Mr. J. Main at the Transport Tribunal on Tuesday. Counsel represented R. Oakey & Sons Ltd. of Alvescot, Oxon, who appealed against the decision of the East Midland Licensing Authority refusing an application to add eight vehicles now on B licence to a six-vehicle A licence.
Amey's Transport (Oxford) Ltd. and the British Railways Board responded to the appeal. They were represented respectively by Miss E. Havers, and Mr. G. Mercer. The Tribunal reserved their decision.
Mr. Main said the appellants now sought to transfer two B-licensed vehicles to A licence, and not the eight vehicles originally proposed, but their attitude to the appeal was unaltered.
Continuing, Counsel said Oakey's service to customers was hampered by two normal users on A licence and two sets of conditions on B licence. Goods collected by short-radius vehicles often had to be transhipped. Customers complained of delay in providing properly licensed vehicles; some could not appreciate licence restrictions and wanted vehicles with a limited radius to go anywhere.
The President (Mr. G. D. Squibb) said their decision would be put in writing.
