DR. W. D. SPENCER, Ph.D., B.Sc., whose portrait appears on this page, has been appointed head of the research department of Low. Temperature Carbonisation, Ltd. He has had seven years' service with Imperial Chemical Industries, working on the development of the coal hydrogenation process and other coal-oil problems. I, His services are available to users of Buda engines in this country.

MR. W. FARNoRTH, previously organizer to the C.M.U.A. South-East • Lancashire Area and Amalgamated Horse and Motor Owners Association, has been appointed secretary of the C.M.U.A. Manchester Area. Before taking over the South-East Lancashire appointment in 1935, Mr. Farnorth had spent many years as a practical haulier.

Four new directors have been appointed to the board of C. C. Wake field and Co., Ltd. They are Ma. H. Y. BLADES, manager of the purchasing department; Mn. A. Lists, manager of the motor ' and aviation departments ; MR. C. D. SANDI5ON, manager' of the overseas branches department; and Mu. W. H. SENNECK, assistant secretary.
