• Oil giant Shell is sponsoring 10 HGV training places for jobless applicants from ethnic minorities.
"Almost all our job candidates are white male drivers," says the company. "We receive no applications from ethnic minorities. This move is a small attempt to redress the balance."
An advertising campaign has been launched in the north of England, aimed at men and women over 21 years old with clean driving licences.
