Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Transtech gear oil and Sovereign grease. Before, fuel efficiency demanded reduced viscosity, which reduced protection.

The oils set tightly bonded "barrier film" on all metal surfaces, and since it is no longer necessary to rely on the "thickness" of the oil to achieve this, viscosity is reduced. This gives a more "slippery" lubricant.

Analysis of used oil samples, says Gulf, has shown significantly reduced quantities of wear metals, meaning that lubricated components last longer, and drain extended.

Figures from the Leyland Technical Centre (running both Powertech AEP engine oil and Transtech gear oil) show fuel savings of up to 8.8%.
