Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Dealers from both sides of the Leyland Daf organisation have welcomed the formation of a joint company: "it will be stronger financially and technically," says Sam Newton, chairman of the Leyland Truck Distributors Association. "We have to be realistic and if money is not forthcoming from the Government, Leyland must look elsewhere to assure its future."

"Dutch engineering will put Leyland on the right road again," said Frank Harris, chairman of Dafs dealer association.

"Most of the Dal dealers are successful and we're confident that Dal will keep most of us on. We're very pleased by the news and there has been a good response generally."

Both Newton and Harris are hopeful that few dealer closures will be needed.
