Experiments in the USSR on improving the economics of long-distance vehicle operations have shown that a methane-diesel combination is the best fuel to use. Extensive tests with Kamaz diesel trucks using a methane-diesel mixture showed that diesel consumption was reduced dramatically and that pollution was also cut. The Kamaz truck is fitted with 10 methane cylinders enough for 260-300km. By 1990, more than half the diesel trucks in the USSR are expected to use this system.
