THERE is growing pressure in Europe to increase vehicle lengths over 15.5m, Committee of Common Market Automobile Constructors secretary-general designate David Bissell said last week.
He was addressing the Institute of Road Transport Engineers, and responding to York Trailer's Keith Buckby who criticised the length limit contained in the Armitage Report saying that most so-called 40ft semitrailers are in fact over 40ft long.
BP Oil head of fleet design and development Brian Veale said he was disappointed that the maximum recommended weight from Armitage for a four-axle articulated combination was 34 not 36 tonnes.
