Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

OVER TEN company wage deals with the controversial £83 Scottish settlements look likely on Merseyside, according to the Transport and General Workers Union.

Local TGWU organiser Bob Robinson told CM this week that, following the breakdown of negotiations with assenting hauliers in the area, more than ten operators in the area have agreed to offer to pay the £83 rate for class 1 drivers working 40 hours.

In addition, overnight subsistence will rise to £10, and the Union has agreed an increase in scheduled speeds from 31 to 35mph to take account of the eight-hour driving day.

The 31mph limit has been used as part of a "go slow" as part of the drivers' campaign for increased wages, but Mr Robinson admitted this week that this has had only limited effect.

He said that between 11 anc 15 of the 60 operators in thE Liverpool area have agreed ir principle to the £83 rate, and hE said that these companies woulc be excluded from any further ac tion taken in pursuit of the 1981 claim.
