THE BIG bus fares bonam planned for Lothian Region April 1 —with rural servici coming down by 20 per cent is off, by order of Scottish Secri tary George Younger.

He told the Scottish Bus Grou that it cannot accept a £5.33r council subsidy which woul have allowed the fares to corn down.

Scottish Bus Group fares o services elsewhere in Scoi land are due to rise by 15 pE cent soon. The question now i whether the existing £1.7n subsidy from Lothian is enougl to allow SBG to keep regions rurallares at current levels.
