Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BY OCTOBER Western British Road Services plan to have a new depot costing £400,000 operational at Newport, Isle of Wight. Existing premises scattered throughout the Island will close down — the new depot becoming a more competitive unit.

However, BRS facilities in Portsmouth and Southampton, where full and partloads are collected for loW distribution, will remain open. The rationalization will support the current trend away from general shipping to ro-ro operation.

The facilities will include 3,716sqm (40,000sqft) of warehousing, built at loading bank height and incorporating modern material-handling techniques. The building may be partitioned into selfcontained secure lettings from 46,7sqm (500sqft) to 467sqm (5,000sqft).

A workshop area of over

743sqm (8,000sqft) will be provided, and commercial vehicle maintenance and contract hire as well as specialized vehicle bodybuilding will be promoted on the Island.

The branch will operate as an agent of the various National Freight Corporation companies, with special stress on the role of BRS in Island distribution.

Also announced by Western BRS is approval for the construction of a 1,765sqm (19,000sqft) warehouse on the Marsh Barton Trading Estate at Exeter. It has been designed to have a number of small, self-contained letting units.

The warehouse will be used for bulk storage of milk powder and other dairy products and for stock-holding a variety of goods for distribution in Devon and Cornwall. Completion date is likely to be June 1975.
