Bearing in mind the precarious fuel situation the improvement is expected to be achieved using greater cetane rating fuels. The fuel consumption targets have already been reached with selective development engines.
Another improvement is the reduction of engine noise, at laboratory conditions, by 10dBA by 1980. During 1975 the company is to offer a noise package designed to reduce bare engine noise by 36d BA. Perkins are also part way through a programme to get to grips with the problem of diesel engine exhaust odour.
