WHEN an autoclave plant was brought lir from Germany to Coventry last week, the two cylinder components were welded to the trailers for security when making the Channel crossing,

One cylinder was 42 ft. long and 8 ft. 8 in. in diameter, and the other 34 ft. long and 11 ft. 6 in. in diameter. A third component was formed by the instruments. Two semi-trailers belonging to Konig Transport, Rotterdam, and another of Continental Ferry Trailers, Ltd. Barking, were loaded at Maschinenbau Scholz and Co., Coesseld, near Cologne, and began their journey to. Antwerp behind Konig tractors on Monday. The British semi-trailer had previously been used to carry a load of machinery from Hull to Belgium.

At Tilbury, three Atkinson tractors of 1. Leftley, Ltd., an associated company of Continental Ferry Traders, took over the loads, which together weighed 52 tons, and completed the delivery to Sir W. G. Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft Co., Ltd., Coventry, on Thursday. The two Konig units were sent back to the Continent with two John Summers 34-ft.long roll grinding machines destined fOr Seigen, Germany.

BETTER TRAINING FOR CONDUCTORS

UTORE time and thought should be nfl. given to the training of conductors, as this might lead to better relations between operators and passengers, Mr. W. I. Crosland Taylor, general manager of Crosville Motor Services, Ltd., told the North Western and Yorkshire Branch of the Onto ibus Society in Liverpool last week.

He thought that the extension of the use of one-man-operated buses was inevitable, but there was something to be said for a return to " owner-driver " operation in country districts.

T.R.TA. LAW TALK FOR DRIVERS

ATALK on "Drivers of C-Licensed Vehicles and the Law" is to be given atChatham, next Friday, by Mr. R. E. G. Brown. London and Home Counties divisional secretary of the Traders' Road Transport Association. Drivers of member-concerns in the Kent area are being invited to attend.

Mr. Brown will refer to log sheets and hours, speed limits for vans and dualpurpose vehicles, and waiting regulations. After the talk, a. series of films will be • shown,

HALIFAX PLAN TO SAVE BUSES

ROUTES and running times of about 30 bus services operated by Halifax Corporation are to he changed on a three-month experimental basis. From next Monday, several services will be coupled, providing a link between other services running on the western and eastern sides of the town.

Annual mileage will be increased by 37,000, but there will be a saving in the number of buses in operation.
